Indigenous Peoples’ Alliance of the Archipelago (AMAN) held ADAT Awards 2013 to honor individuals documenting and reporting Indigenous Peoples’ hassle in defending their rights. ADAT Awards 2013 is given to three categories, namely Film Dokumenter (documentary films) for indigenous communities registered as AMAN’s members.

  • Produk Radio (radio products) for AMAN’s community radios and/or member of Indonesia Community Radio Networks (JRKI).
  • Jurnalistik (journalistic) for journalists of printed or online media.
  • The registration was due on 6 August 2013. The winners were announced in the reception dinner of the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples held by AMAN on 19 August 2013 in Jakarta.
The winners are:
  • Documentary “Kurang Sisik Rumput Tumbuh, Kurang Siang Tunoy Menjedi”, produced by the KMB (Kelompok Makekal Bersatu) indigenous community, Orang Rimba Bukit 12, Jambi province.
  • Public service announcement “Hutan Adat Bukan Lagi Hutan Negara” of Radio Gelora FM, Secanggang indigenous community, Sumatra Utara province.
  • Journalist Prodita Sabarini of The Jakarta Post, with article “Recognition of Indigenous Peoples Stuck in Red Tape”, published on 24 June 2013.
Each winner will get trophy, certificate and prize money IDR 2,500,000. AMAN congratulates all the winners!
